Sean and Tina Smith, with a combined 10 years of
overhead door industry experience and the encouragement
of an industry friend, Keen Cornell, started The Smith
Company in 1994, and quickly became Cornell Iron Works'
largest volume distributor of coiling doors and side
folding closures.
Keen, his
son Andrew Cornell, and the many great people at Cornell
Iron Works truly partnered with the Smiths, and between
the years 1994 and 2001 the company grew at almost $1M
per year. This rapid revenue growth caused the Smiths to
reach out and acquire the services of Dwyer & Co., a
construction centric CPA firm owned and operated by
Darrell and Helen Dwyer. Darrell and Helen worked
closely with The Smith Company over the years, and
helped them continue to dominate the Northern California
overhead door market.
In
January 2005, Andrew Cornell, CEO of Cornell Iron Works,
convinced Sean Smith to take over as Cornell's Vice
President of Sales. Later that year, Helen and Darrell
Dwyer introduced Sean to Gerard (Gerry) Kearney, a
general contractor from Loomis. Gerry worked a deal with
Sean to buy the company, and today, with Gerry's great
construction experience, Helen Dwyer as Controller, and
the same great group of people, The Smith Company
continues to be the leading overhead door contractor in
Northern California. |
